We are about one month away from #NCLGBA18 Summer Conference at Atlantic Beach! The conference planning team and our 2018 Conference co-chairs (Christopher Williams and Michelle Daniels) have been hard at work (since February!) getting our sessions lined up, talking to potential sponsors, not to mention all of the emails and phone calls that go into planning our conferences.
Over the last few years we have tried to be very intentional in lining up relevant sessions, speakers, and social events to match the expectations of our members. Just a few highlights from Wednesday, July 11, the first day of the conference:
- NC Politics: We are starting off with a bang! In our very first day we are setting the bar extremely high. The first session is a look is an interactive session on the upcoming election season and NC politics led by Professor Chris Cooper from Western Carolina. You will want to arrive to the conference early (or at least on time) in order to hear Professor Cooper’s take on a very interesting election coming up later in 2018.
- City/County Updates: Always a conference highlight, the update from our NCLM and NCACC liaisons will blend very nicely with our first session. Elections. Politics. Chris Nida. What more could you ask for?
- ELGL: We are welcoming back some very dear friends of NCLGBA to our Summer Conference! I am very happy to announce that our esteemed colleagues from Engaging Local Government Leaders are flying in all the way from Oregon to be with us again this summer. If you haven’t had the chance to engage with ELGL, this is your chance! We are all excited to catch up with Kirsten and Kent Wyatt to see what they have been up to and to learn about cutting edge trends going on within local governments from across the country. I also heard a rumor about a cage match at #NCLGBA18? But, I’ll leave it to them to fully explain that little mystery! In fact, if you peruse their website, you’ll notice some NCLGBA royalty (past and future Presidents) right there on the ELGL homepage!
We have a lot more in store for you all this summer. This was just a preview of the first day, but expect two more days of learning, socializing, catching up with old and new friends, some great food, and a lot of warm sun! The rest of the conference agenda is available here. (updated to final version – 6/19/18)
(update – registration is now closed.)
Please let the conference planners Christopher Williams and Michelle Daniels (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Justin Amos, NCLBA President, know if you have any questions. We are happy to answer them and we really hope to see you all this summer for #NCLGBA18!
