As reported today online by the Triangle Business Journal out of Raleigh, the Business First group of publications have released an annual update of populations for 940 U.S. metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas . These estimates are based on the most recent estimates provided by the U.S. Census Bureau and also include evaluations of current population trends, as well as year estimates of each area meeting specific population targets.
The Charlotte-Concord-Gastonia MSA ranks 33rd in the Country in population with 1,804,578. The index predicts that the Charlotte Metro Area will grow to more than 1.81 million by the end of this September. The Raleigh-Cary MSA improved their ranking from 49th last year to 47th with a revised population of 1,173,716. Twenty statistical areas within the state have populations of more than 100,000.
