We are excited to announce that this year’s Winter Conference will be held at the Omni Grove Park in Asheville, December 11th-13th. The conference will include an array of sessions focusing on discussions and techniques local budget practitioners can use to improve their processes, achieve the goals of their governing bodies, uphold standards of fiscal responsibility and respect for citizens, and maintain credibility with taxpayers.

We will spend time talking about why Leadership is not dependent on job title and what skills we need to develop to transform our organizations.  We will learn about Wellness programs and best practices in local government.  With much popularity we will be bringing back our Roundtable and Speed Networking sessions with a fresh slate of topics.  Not to mention great sessions on Capital Budgeting, Strategic Planning, an Economic Update, Property and Sales Tax, Community Grants, Economic Development, and budgeting for Technology to name a few.

We are also excited to announce that Steve Straus will be speaking at the Winter Conference.  He is the President of Developmental Associates and is an engaging speaker/teacher on a myriad of topics.  If you want to learn more about him take a look at his bio: https://www.developmentalassociates.com/about/steve-straus/.

We are trying something new this year – Wednesday night’s Networking Reception will be held off-site in downtown Asheville at the Century Room at  Pack’s Tavern. This reception is included in your conference registration and shuttle service will be provided! If you prefer to drive, we can direct you to public lots nearby!

Plan to stop by the reception, mingle with your fellow attendees, then grab a group and head out to dinner downtown.  Not sure where to go? We’ll have a few suggested options where you can meet up with conference attendees. For questions and suggestions, contact Scott Tesh, City of Winston-Salem, at (336)-747-7095 or josepht@cityofws.org.

The group social activity for Thursday night will be the Asheville Brewery Tour. You’ll have behind-the-scenes access to many local breweries, including meeting with the brew-masters and understanding the brewing process. Led by friendly and knowledgeable tour guides, you’ll get to sample many local brews and seasonal varieties. Mobile tours include Asheville venues such as Highland Brewing Company, Pisgah Brewing, or Altamont Brewing Company.

The Brewery Tour is $54/person. Payment is by personal check, using the registration form linked below.
