#NCLGBA22 Recap Series: S.M.A.R.T. Change

Over the next few weeks, we will be featuring reflections on the 2022 Winter Conference. If you would like to share your experience, please email admin@nclgba.org.

Our first #NCLGBA22 Conference Recap comes from Bridget StanleyAlcoholic Beverage Control System General Manager at Youngsville Board of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

The line from Point A to Point B is rarely linear.  It comes with twists, turns, walk backs, and roadblocks. Effective change management is demonstrated when leadership acknowledges that the process is not just widgets, whatnots, tools, and techniques. The key to sustained, positive change is PEOPLE.

Helping them understand why change is happening, what the expectations are, and how they will be supported in achieving success. Communicating the Vision and Plan are critical elements for successful change management. The Goals and Objectives should meet the S.M.A.R.T. standard:
  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Achievable
  • Relevant
  • Timebound
As we continue to support our respective organizations' growth, it is important to remember that it should be our Vision, Values, and Mission that drive the message for every decision that is made. Those things tell our teams where we want to be in the future, who we are, what we believe in, and why we exist. Change Management: it’s the S.M.A.R.T. thing to do!
